1- Piazza San Marco
Venice’s largest piazza, Piazza San Marco (or Saint Mark’s Square), is the city’s main meeting place. Lined with cafes, shops, and a number of museums, this magnificent piazza sits at the mouth of the Grand Canal. You’ve probably seen it in photographs, as it’s one of Europe’s most famous meeting places. Check out the intricately designed Saint Mark’s Basilica cathedral and listen to the bells of San Marco while sipping an Italian espresso and feeding the pigeons.
2-Grand Canal
Italian Canale Grande is the main waterway of Venice, Italy, following a natural channel that traces a reverse-S course from San Marco Basilica to Santa Chiara Church and divides the city into two parts. Slightly more than 2 miles (3 km) long and between 100 and 225 feet (30 and 70 metres) wide, the Grand Canal has an average depth of 17 feet (5 metres) and connects at various points with a maze of smaller canals. Venice from above looks like a big fish, not bad for a city on the sea! The Grand Canal it’s like a thick dark line that creates a kind of “big S” inside the fish.
By each side there are many magnificent buildings (from a period dated between XII and XVII century) that testify the richness and beauty of the art of the “Serenissima“ Republic.
3-Church of Saint Sebastian
This is a 16th-century Roman Catholic church located in the Dorsoduro sestiere of the Italian city of Venice. The church houses a cycle of paintings by the artist Paolo Veronese, as well as paintings by Tintoretto and Titian. The church is also a member of the Chorus Association of Venetian churches. It stands on the Campo di San Sebastiano by the Rio di San Basilio, close to the Giudecca Canal. It is one of the five votive churches in Venice, each one built after the passing of a plague through the city.[1] Following construction, the church was dedicated to a saint associated with the disease; in this case St. Sebastian.
4-Campanile di San Marco
The tower is 98.6 metres (323 ft) tall, and stands alone in a corner of St Mark’s Square, near the front of the basilica. It has a simple form, the bulk of which is a fluted brick square shaft, 12 metres (39 ft) wide on each side and 50 metres (160 ft) tall, above which is a loggia surrounding the belfry, housing five bells. A visit to the campanile was an attraction offered also in the past to illustrious guests, though the Lords were cautious in granting permission to foreigners for fear that they might survey the layout of the city and its ports for military purposes. Galileo used the campanile as an observatory to study the skies and it was there in1609 that he demonstrated his telescope to the Lords.
5-The Rialto Bridge
Is the oldest of the four bridges spanning the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy. Connecting the sestieri (districts) of San Marco and San Polo, it has been rebuilt several times since its first construction as a pontoon bridge in the 12th century, and is now a significant tourist attraction in the city. It was designed and built by Antonio da Ponte and his nephew, Antonio Contino, following a design competition in the city.
