1-The Colosseum
The Colosseum is the main symbol of Rome. It is an imposing construction that, with almost 2,000 years of history, will bring you back in time to discover the way of life in the Roman Empire.
It is a Flavian amphitheater, built in the first century AD. It was the biggest amphitheater in the Roman Empire and was used as the stage for the famous Gladiator fights where gladiators fought against each other or against animals. Entrance is free on the first Sunday of every month.
2-Fontana di Trevi
It’s the most top reviewed place on Google, it’s extremely crowded so just know it’s going to be hard to get that Insta shot, but it’s really beautiful and it’s cool that the water is provided by an ancient aqueduct!
The legend is that if you want to return to Rome, you toss one coin. If you’re single and want to return to Rome with someone who loves you, you toss two coins. And if you have someone who loves you but you want to return to Rome, by yourself, you toss three coins!
3-The Pantheon
Pantheon is located in the middle of a completely normal residential area. The interior has the shape of a cylinder covered by a half of a sphere; the height of the cylinder is equal to the radius of the sphere, and is 43.3 meters. There are no windows inside but the large oculus!
Entrance is free, but do keep in mind the long (though fast-moving) queue.
4-Roman Forum
This sprawling architectural site includes the Temple of Saturn, Temple of Venus and Roma, Temple of Caesar, Temple of Romulus, Arch of Septimus Severus, Basilica of Maxentius and Constantine as well as other buildings like the Senate, King’s headquarters, record office, a prison and so many more.
The Roman Forum was the scene of public meetings, law courts, and gladiatorial combats in republican times and was lined with shops and open-air markets.
5-Basilica di Santa Maria in Ara Coeli
Santa Maria in Aracoeli is a titular Basillica in the heart of the City. Thousands of tourists visit year round to admire the history and beauty of the Gothic architecture, to see the Santo Bambino of Aracoeli, and to climb up the monumental stairway of 124 steps oustide one of Rome’s most cherished churches.
The architectural style of Santa Maria is Romanesque, Gothic. Tourists may see the famous Gothic stained-glass window from the bottom of the stairs outside the church. The church contains three naves, divided by twenty-two Roman columns. All of the columns were taken from different antique monuments and Roman ruins.
